Catching Pokémon
Catching Pokémon is one of the most important things in the Pokémon games. Without it, you'd only have your starter, and that'd be harder, and not very fun! So there are some things to know about catching Pokémon. First off, you need some sort of Poké Ball. There are lots of types of Poké Balls, and each are different. Next you should have a Pokémon that can Paralyze or put a wild Pokémon to Sleep. Also, you may want to have a Pokémon that knows False Swipe or Super Fang. These two moves allow you to get the wild Pokémon down to 1 HP without knocking it out. Super Fang causes the opponent's HP to be reduced to half its HP each time it is used, and False Swipe always leaves the opponent with at least 1 HP.
Start out by deciding what Pokémon you want to catch, and find where its located. In Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal, Pokémon tended to be stronger when raised from the lowest level possible, but in Ruby and Sapphire onwards, Pokémon have EVs, or Effort Values, which are kind of complicated but for this example, let Pokémon be "fully trained", stat-wise after a short time of training, and it doesn't matter what level it starts at. After you find the right Pokémon, Paralyze it or put it to Sleep. After that, use False Swipe or Super Fang to get the wild Pokémon down to 1 HP. Then throw Poké Balls at it!
