Politoed, the Frog Pokémon. Politoed is a Water-type Pokémon, and it evolves from Poliwhirl traded while holding a King's Rock. Politoed is one of the final evolutions for Poliwhirl, the other being Poliwrath.
Gold, Silver, and Crystal
Politoed debuted in Gold and Silver. It's #186 in the National Dex. There is now breeding, so Politoed can either be male or female, and it's in the Water 1 egg group. Politoed can be shiny as well. Poliwhirl can now evolve into Politoed, a Water-type Pokémon, by trading it with a King's Rock attached, instead of only Poliwrath, as it was in Red, Blue, and Yellow.
Politoed cannot be caught in Gold, Silver, and Crystal. You must evolve a Poliwhirl to obtain Politoed.
Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald
Politoed cannot be caught in Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald; you have to trade it from FireRed or LeafGreen. In Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon got abilities, and Politoed's is either Water Absorb or Damp. Water Absorb recovers 25% HP when Politoed's hit by a Water-type move, and Damp prevents Exploding or Self Destructing in a battle.
FireRed and LeafGreen
Politoed cannot be caught in FireRed or LeafGreen. You must evolve a Poliwhirl to obtain Politoed. You can then breed Politoed and trade a Poliwag, Poliwhirl or Politoed over to Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald if you want.
Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum
Politoed cannot be caught in Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. You must evolve a Poliwhirl to obtain Politoed. Politoed got a different sprite whether it was a male or female in these games too. If you migrate a Politoed from any of the Advance games, you'll find Politoed in the Pond area of the Pal Park.
HeartGold and SoulSilver
Politoed cannot be caught in HeartGold or SoulSilver. You must evolve a Poliwhirl to obtain Politoed.
Black, White, Black 2, and White 2
Politoed got a new hidden ability in Black and White, Drizzle, which makes it start raining at the beginning of the battle. Politoed can be caught on Route 6, after beating the Elite Four and obtaining the National Dex in Black and White. You can find Politoed in the rippling water spots in Black and White. In Black 2 and White 2 you can catch Politoed on Routes 6, 19, and 20, Floccesy Ranch, Lostlorn Forest, and Victory Road by fishing.
X and Y
Politoed is in full 3D in X and Y! Politoed can be caught on Route 19 using the Super Rod. Politoed is also one of the Pokémon that got an updated mini sprite for X and Y.
